Installing clarix

1. Move it to Applications

Open the downloaded .dmg, then drag clarix.app into the Applications folder shown in the same window. Eject the disk image afterward — the small eject icon next to it in Finder's sidebar, or right-click it and choose Eject.

2. First launch (unsigned build)

Why this build is unsigned: We are selling it outside the appstore

macOS Gatekeeper blocks unsigned apps by default. The first time you open clarix, you'll need to approve it manually:

  1. Double-click clarix.app in Applications. macOS will say it "cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" — click Done, not Move to Trash.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll to the Security section — you'll see "clarix was blocked to protect your Mac." Click Open Anyway.
  4. Enter your password or Touch ID if prompted, then click Open in the final confirmation dialog.

On macOS 15 (Sequoia) and later, control-click → Open no longer bypasses Gatekeeper for unsigned apps — you must use the Privacy & Security steps above. This is a macOS change, not something specific to clarix.

You only need to do this once per version. Future launches open normally.

"clarix is damaged and can't be opened"

This message usually means the download didn't finish, or macOS's quarantine flag got applied in a way that Gatekeeper can't resolve — it does not usually mean the file is actually corrupted. Try, in order:

  1. Delete the app and the .dmg, then download clarix again — a partial or interrupted download is the most common cause.
  2. Verify the checksum of the freshly downloaded file before opening it.
  3. If it still happens after following the Open Anyway steps above, open Terminal and run:
    xattr -cr /Applications/clarix.app
    then try opening it again.
  4. If none of that works, email support with your macOS version and Mac model.

Verifying the checksum from Terminal

Every download page lists the expected SHA-256 checksum. To check the file you downloaded matches it:

  1. Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities → Terminal).
  2. Type shasum -a 256 (with a trailing space), then drag the downloaded .dmg file from Finder into the Terminal window — this fills in the path — and press Return.
  3. Compare the printed value to the checksum shown on the download page. They should match exactly.

Uninstalling

Quit clarix, then drag clarix.app from Applications to the Trash. clarix does not install a background helper or launch daemon outside the app bundle itself.
